Reiki, a quiet space to rest, reconnect and simply be

Life can ask a lot of us.

We become so used to looking after everyone else, managing responsibilities, carrying worries and pushing through tiredness that we can sometimes forget what it feels like to truly stop.

Reiki offers you that pause.

A gentle, deeply relaxing complementary therapy, Reiki gives you time to step away from the noise of everyday life and into a calm, nurturing space where nothing is expected of you.

You don’t need to talk. You don’t need to achieve anything. You don’t need to arrive feeling calm.

You can simply come as you are.

Whether you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, navigating changes in your life, moving through perimenopause or midlife, carrying difficult emotions, or simply feeling that you need some time for yourself, Reiki can offer a beautiful opportunity to slow down and reconnect.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle Japanese energy therapy that is used to support relaxation and overall wellbeing.

The word Reiki is often translated as “universal life energy.” During a Reiki treatment, the practitioner places their hands gently on or just above different areas of the body, allowing you to remain fully clothed throughout the session.

There is no massage or physical manipulation involved.

For many people, the experience is one of deep stillness. You may notice warmth or tingling, feel very relaxed or sleepy, become more aware of your emotions, or simply experience a sense of quiet.

There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki, and every session can feel different.

For me, Reiki is as much about creating a safe space for you to stop as it is about the treatment itself.

In our busy lives, having an hour where you are not required to give, respond, organise or take care of anyone else can be incredibly valuable.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

People choose Reiki for many different reasons, but one of the most common is simply the need to slow down.

A Reiki session may help to encourage:

  • Deep relaxation and rest

  • A greater sense of calm

  • Time away from everyday stress and responsibilities

  • Emotional space during challenging periods

  • A feeling of being more grounded and centred

  • Greater connection with yourself

  • A sense of stillness and clarity

  • Support for your overall emotional wellbeing

  • Dedicated time for self-care

Some people come for Reiki when life feels particularly difficult, while others choose regular sessions simply because they value having a quiet space where they can switch off and reset.

Reiki is a complementary therapy and should not be used as a replacement for medical treatment, counselling or other appropriate healthcare. Instead, it can sit gently alongside the support you are already receiving.

Who can Reiki help?

Reiki can be suitable for people at many different stages of life.

Within my practice, I particularly love supporting women who spend so much of their lives doing, caring and holding everything together.

You might be drawn to Reiki if you are:

Feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed

When your mind feels constantly busy and your body finds it difficult to switch off, Reiki can provide a quiet environment in which to rest.

Navigating perimenopause or midlife

Midlife can bring physical changes, emotional shifts, changing relationships and questions about who we are and what we need next.

Reiki offers space to step away from those demands and reconnect with yourself.

Moving through grief or emotional change

There are times when we may not have the words for everything we are feeling.

Reiki doesn't require you to explain or analyse your emotions. Sometimes simply being given permission to become still can feel supportive when you are moving through grief, loss or change.

Always looking after everyone else

If you are usually the person other people depend upon, receiving care can feel unfamiliar.

Your Reiki treatment is time that belongs completely to you.

Feeling disconnected from yourself

Sometimes there isn't one particular problem. You simply know that you don't quite feel like yourself.

Taking time to slow down can create space to notice what you need and begin reconnecting with yourself again.

Looking for deeper relaxation

You don't have to be struggling to benefit from Reiki.

You may simply enjoy the sense of calm and stillness it brings and choose Reiki as part of your regular wellbeing routine.

What happens during a Reiki treatment?

When you arrive, we'll have a gentle conversation about how you've been feeling and what has brought you to Reiki.

There is never any pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with.

You'll then lie comfortably on the treatment couch, fully clothed, with blankets available to help you feel warm and relaxed.

During the treatment, I will place my hands gently on or slightly above different areas of your body.

You may experience warmth, tingling, heaviness, lightness or a sense of drifting into a deeply relaxed state. You may notice emotions arise, or you may simply feel peaceful and rested.

Some people feel very relaxed afterwards, while others describe feeling clearer, lighter or more grounded.

Whatever your experience, I encourage you to give yourself a little space after your treatment rather than rushing straight back into a busy day wherever possible.

Reiki FAQs

Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?

No particular belief system is required to receive Reiki. You can simply approach your treatment as an opportunity to relax, become still and enjoy some dedicated time for yourself.

What should I wear?

You remain fully clothed during Reiki, so I recommend wearing something comfortable that allows you to relax easily.

Will you touch me during the treatment?

Reiki can be offered with gentle, non-invasive hand placements on the body or with the hands held slightly above you. If you would prefer a completely hands-off treatment, just let me know.

What will I feel during Reiki?

Everyone experiences Reiki differently. You may notice warmth, tingling, heaviness or deep relaxation. Some people become emotional, some fall asleep, and others don't notice any particular physical sensations at all.

There is no experience you should have.

Is it normal to become emotional during Reiki?

Sometimes slowing down allows emotions that have been sitting quietly beneath the surface to become more noticeable.

If emotions arise during your session, you will be given the space to experience them without judgement. Equally, your session may simply feel peaceful and relaxing.

How will I feel afterwards?

You may feel deeply relaxed, sleepy, peaceful, emotional or more energised. Everyone responds differently, so where possible I recommend keeping the rest of your day fairly gentle and drinking plenty of water.

How many Reiki sessions will I need?

There is no set number.

Some people come for one session when they feel particularly in need of rest or support. Others enjoy Reiki regularly as part of their ongoing self-care.

We can find a rhythm that feels right for you without any pressure to commit to a particular number of treatments.

Can Reiki replace medical treatment?

No. Reiki is a complementary therapy and is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure medical or mental health conditions. If you have health concerns, you should always seek advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Reiki can, however, be enjoyed alongside conventional healthcare as part of your wider approach to wellbeing.

Give yourself permission to stop

You don't need to wait until you're completely exhausted or overwhelmed before making space for yourself.

Sometimes self-care can be as simple as recognising:

I need some time to stop.

My Reiki treatments offer you a warm, nurturing space where you can step away from everyday responsibilities, settle into stillness and receive rather than give.

An hour where there is nowhere else you need to be.

Nothing you need to fix.

And nothing you need to do.

Just space to rest, breathe and reconnect with yourself.
