How Reflexology may help with Perimenopause and Menopause symptoms.

Menopause can be a challenging phase for many women, and it's important to understand what it involves. Officially, menopause is considered complete when a woman has not had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. The average age is around 51, but it can happen anywhere between 45 and 55, and sometimes even earlier or later.
Before menopause, women often go through a phase called perimenopause, where they may start to notice some symptoms as hormone levels fluctuate. This period can be difficult to navigate —almost like experiencing puberty in reverse. It's a time of significant change, and it’s completely valid to feel overwhelmed. Being informed and sharing these experiences can make all the difference.
Menopause is a natural stage in a woman’s life when her ovaries gradually cease the production of essential hormones like oestrogen and progesterone. This change can lead to a variety of physical and emotional reactions, which may manifest as:
- hot flushes
- night sweats
- fatigue
- depression
- weight changes
- anxiety
- difficulties with concentration
- occasional memory lapses
It's important to know that these symptoms are not only common but also part of a significant transition and seeking support can make a meaningful difference during this time.
How can Reflexology help?
By focusing on the reflex points related to the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, and adrenal glands, Reflexology helps to alleviate stress, ultimately making the journey through menopause a bit smoother and more manageable.
Here at Michelle Procter Wellness, I can provide a safe, stress-free space in which to relax, unwind and let-go. Your treatment will be unique to you and your symptoms. Having an empathic Reflexologist who understands the physical and emotional changes behind menopausal symptoms can really make a difference.
Please note: reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice. Reflexology can be received by anyone at any age, however, there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable for you so please discuss this with your reflexologist. Some people find it works well for them, and others don’t see the same effect.
“The present study demonstrated that the use of foot reflexology as a non-hormonal and non-invasive intervention, led to a significant reduction in menopausal symptoms and fatigue among women. Given the limited number of studies available in this area and the low to very low-level certainty of the evidence for the desired outcomes, further research with appropriate methodologies to ensure accurate conclusions in this field is strongly recommended.”
